Annual General Meeting
DALBY BRIDGE CLUB NEWSLETTER
President’s letter to the AGM 29th September.
I would really like to thank everyone for their effort in coming here tonight.
We have had a very successful year with our Congresses. Alan Gibson is of the opinion that we run our Congresses at a loss which is never the case. Unfortunately our caterer was ill for our September Congress, and many thanks to all who stepped up to make it very successful, everyone contributed in some way. We tried a new theme with sandwiches and sweets for lunch which proved to be very successful and enjoyed by all. Edwina Willis later phoned me with congratulations on how well the Congress was conducted.
Many of our members have travelled away to congresses and have done very well particularly our newer members who have had the opportunity to attend Novice Competitions. Rebecca Knight who has been very successful is now an A grader. Alan Gibson remarked that we should advertise our congresses more, particularly to the clubs we support but receive little support in return.
I want to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness, for Heather for picking up the pizzas for tonight, and a special thank you to John and Jan Gill for compiling and printing our bridge booklets at no cost to the club.
During the year a new dishwasher was purchased and Margaret Atkinson was to submit a grant application for a dealing machine. Western Downs Regional Council installed a new outside light in response to incidences where members had tripped. This was most appreciated and appropriate letters were sent.
Thank you for being friendly and for all the efforts you have all put in for the year.
Election of Office Bearers: All executive positions and other general positions were returned unopposed.
New committee members elected were Philip and Margaret Atkinson, Rebecca Knight and Elisabeth Mahoney.
Directors: Tuesday Rebecca Knight, Diane Wenham and Heather Bradley, Friday Margaret Keating, Del Smith and Jenny Speziali
General Business: Diane nominated Herb and Verna Kessler to receive Life Membership in recognition of their continued support for the Bridge Club. The honour is to be conveyed on them at a special morning tea – unanimous.
Other Items: Table Fees to remain the same $50pa and B grade trophies to be replaced with monetary rewards.
At the October General Meeting there was discussion regarding the Christmas Party. It will be held on Tuesday 15th December at 6pm. Catering still has to be finalised.
A question was raised regarding the amount of information that could possibly be displayed on the Bridgemates. Diane was to contact Peter Busch as to protocol.
Philip suggested that members may wish to view copies of Minutes and Financial Reports. Copies to be available for members to peruse in the future.
A suggestion was also made that we should include the schools when promoting future bridge lessons.
Next meeting will be on the 27th November at 8.45am.
